Hull York Medical School Appoints AFOS

A state of the art facility to help train doctors is being created at one of Britain’s newest medical schools.

The Hull York Medical School (HYMS) has appointed mortuary equipment specialist AFOS to create a significant new specialist facility in Hull which will provide crucial support for the teaching of anatomy to all HYMS students.

The £80,000 project will provide HYMS with a new anatomy unit complete with a full range of autopsy equipment and audio visual teaching aids.

The Hull York Medical School was set up in 2003 by the Universities of York and Hull to work in partnership with the NHS to deliver a high quality medical curriculum.

Professor Bill Gillespie, Dean of HYMS said: “HYMS has seen wide-ranging investment in its facilities on both University campuses and in hospital and community settings, all of which benefit our students.

“This anatomy unit is the latest development in providing state-of-the-art facilities for our students.”

Ian Smith, Project Manager for Hull based AFOS said: “This is a prestigious contract providing a superb new facility which will help the Hull York Medical School provide excellent teaching facilities for Britain’s next generation of doctors.”

The order further strengthens AFOS’ position in the educational sector and follows a £420,000 contract from the University of British Columbia for the provision of pathology facilities across three sites in Canada.

AFOS was selected against competition from several American companies to provide body storage and autopsy tables for the University which is responsible for training 90 per cent of doctors in British Columbia.
